Bogdan Hovhannisyan is a stone sculptor and khachkar (cross-stone) carver. He has about 30 years of experience in the local traditional art of cross-stone making. The master has his unique approach to everything- sort of “abstract”, but simple and beautiful. Bogdan’s studio is open to everyone who wants to see and learn about the arts, particularly stone carving. The master will deliver a tour of his workshop, demonstrating the process of creating Armenian cross-stones (khachkar) and tell the story behind it. You will also have a chance to visit the different sections of his studio: the ceramics room, the painting, and the stone rooms. The guests can also experience working with clay. You can pick the sculptures up made during the visit after firing.

The center is situated in a beautifully restored historic building surrounded by peaceful gardens. The children of the region are encouraged to enroll in the center’s program. They experience themselves in such arts and crafts as carpet making, embroidery, batik, weaving, wood and stone carving, ceramics, etc. During your visit, you will have a comprehensive tour of the center, which consists of various thematic rooms and exhibitions. You will see the handmade exhibits and items made by the talented students and staff of this center which will astonish you with their high-performing art, bright images as well as unique color combinations and solutions.

The house of fairy tale is situated in Pambak on the way, which is on 20 minutes ride from Vanadzor. The main goal of the center is to preserve Armenian culture and traditions and introduce it to the local and international visitors. The center offers various activities and experiences such as carpet weaving, embroidering, traditional folk performances, reproduction of the traditional events and ritual, national dish cooking, etc. During your visit you will have a guided tour in the house, which is decorated in traditional motives. You can also have a hands-on experience of traditional Armenian doll making class. The host will tell you the ritual meaning and making purpose of the “Nuri” doll, which is no longer very common is Armenian families. After finishing you will take yourself made doll. You can enjoy your meal in this beautifully decorated environment.

This historic house-museum presents Hovhannes Toumanyan’s life and works- an Armenian remarkable writer and public figure of the 20th century. You will visit the five rooms and upstairs living quarters to experience the early life of Toumanyan and his family in the early 19th century—from bread making in the kitchen to the sleeping quarters where Toumanyan’s family gathered for songs and stories. The collection also features photographs, watercolors, and selected writings highlighting the personal life of Toumanyan. Visitors should keep an eye out for an intricate sculpture of the writer on the second floor rendered in a piece of gold, smaller than a grain of rice, and also visit the memorial in the yard where Toumanyan’s heart is buried. At the end of the visit the guests will be able to see the process of spindle spinning at the museum and learn about this traditional technique.

Pottery is one of the oldest Armenian traditions and widespread decorative arts, which has inspired artisans to create real masterpieces of art for centuries. A hand on experience with clay has a magical influence on a human’s mental and physical health.
At Pottery house Armenia you will have the opportunity to have a hand on experience of playing with the clay. You can throw clay mugs or plates on the potter’s wheel under the expert guidance of your host Alla. She will share her skills and knowledge about ceramics, its making techniques and technology, its traditions in Armenia and specifically in Lori, etc. The experience can be organized outdoor in nice weather, and you will get rid of any negative vibes surrounded by nature. This relaxation type therapy experience will give you new skills and positive emotions.
